Our Mission:
I Got Your Back Pack is a non-profit initiative and registered charity established in support of Women’s Refuge.

It's sole vision is to support those in crisis as a result of domestic violence, by way of providing backpacks filled with practical and essential items to every woman and child as they enter the support system of Women’s Refuge.

Why Backpacks?
Most women and children in crisis circumstances have had to leave their homes with very little (if any) personal possessions.

I Got Your Back Pack believes that gifting a backpack filled with practical and essential items to each woman and child engaging with women’s refuge, goes a long way towards easing some of their distress and provide, especially for the children, some much needed positive and comforting distractions in these early days of upheaval and change within their lives.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Background Information

*IGYBP was founded by a survivor of domestic violence who went through (with her young daughter) one of the Women’s refuge safehouses. Forced to leave with nothing she found it extremely difficult to not have basic toiletries like a toothbrush or something to give her daughter e.g. toy or reading book.

I Got Your Back Pack provides emergency Backpacks to the most critical cases of women and children (victims of Domestic Violence) going through Women’s Refuges nationwide, Shine SAFE Houses and other Shelters within NZ. We also provide men’s and age specific babies packs on request.

A small team of volunteers operates IGYBP from a donated packing station (Silverdale) however all administration, communication and fundraising efforts are run from the volunteers homes.

  • How are you funded?

Most of our $ funding is by individual donation, fundraisers  and corporate donations with the bulk of our goods for packs donated (approx. 80%).

As at September we have now been awarded some grant funding which we are using to purchase the essential supplies in bulk /lower price points to ensure we can stretch our funding further and help as many NZ families as possible.

We do not currently have any regular funding.

We have worked hard to ensure the lowest price point for these supplies.  To purchase the physical packs and kid supplies in bulk costs us:

    - Mum's pack = Tote Bag + Journal @ 15.00  ($15,000 per year/1000 packs)

    - Kids Pack = Backpack + Teddy Bear + Book @ $20  ($20,000 per year/1000 packs)

In addition to the pack cost listed above, our average "top up cost" per month is anywhere between $1,500 - 2,000 for approx 300 packs ($5-$7 per pack if we can bulk buy and depends on what product has come in)

Please consider becoming a regular supporter of I Got Your Back Pack.

With regular support we are able to plan and preorder for better discounts ensuring your $$ are used to provide as much benefit as possible.

  • How does it work?

The refuge’s place “orders” with us, which we fill and deliver to them nationwide.  Our deliveries are usually made by volunteers who generously donate their time and vehicle running costs.

The backpacks are then given to those considered most critical going through the safe houses and shelters.

From time to time we post on facebook for help in delivering our packs to the refuges - keep up to date with our Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/IGotYourBackPackNZ/
